Privacy policy

Quillmoth is designed so that your recordings and transcripts never leave your Mac. This page explains exactly what the app does and doesn't do with data.

What we collect

In the app: nothing. Quillmoth has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. We don't receive your audio, transcripts, summaries, or any information about how you use the app.

This website

This website (quillmoth.com) uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read. Google may set cookies and collect your IP address, browser and approximate location for this purpose. This applies only to the website, never to the app. You can opt out with Google's opt-out browser add-on. In Europe, the UK, Switzerland and Quebec we ask first, and you can change your choice at any time: Analytics choices. We also use Google Search Console, which reports how the site appears in Google Search and does not track you.

Where your data lives

Audio you import or record, transcripts and summaries are stored in files inside the app's folder on your Mac. They are not sent to us or to any third party. Deleting a transcript in the app deletes its files. Uninstalling the app and its data removes everything.

On-device processing

Speech recognition uses Apple's on-device speech technology built into macOS. Summaries are produced by a language model that runs on your Mac. Neither sends your content to a server.

The only network connections

Microphone

Quillmoth asks for microphone access only so you can record. Recording happens on your Mac, and the audio is saved to your library. You can turn access off at any time in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone.

Computer audio (meetings)

If you choose Record Meeting, macOS asks for permission to record System Audio. Quillmoth then records the audio your Mac is playing (for example the other people on a call) together with your microphone, and saves it on your Mac like any other recording. It never records unless you start it, and macOS shows its recording indicator while it does. You can turn the permission off at any time in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen & System Audio Recording. Please tell the people you record, and follow any laws or workplace rules that apply to recording conversations.

Free-version usage counter

To enforce the free version's limits, the app keeps a small counter (how many transcripts and summaries you've created) in your Mac's Keychain. It stays on your Mac and contains no content.

Children

Quillmoth is a general-purpose tool and is not directed at children. The app collects no personal information from anyone.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with an updated date.
